Olivia Penpraze.
19 years old.
Died from a Suicide attempt that left her brain dead. Her parents made the hardest decision of their lives by turning off her life support.
She had a Tumblr account with over 900 posts sharing her emotional turmoil, dealings with depression, loneliness & thoughts about her wanting to take her own life.
The only response she got, was insensitive assholes, like the majority of people on Tumblr, encouraging her to do it. She was bullied consistently.
Olivia attempted to kill herself every year in May 1st since 2008.In May 2012, her short life came to an end.
I know most people can’t tolerate posts like Olivia’s, whom find it attention seeking.
My point to you people is…EXACTLY!!
Of course it’s attention seeking what else it?! People share that part of themselves over the Internet because they obviously feel they can’t talk to anyone they know nor do they think anyone would care.
All I want is for people to cut out the bullying & talk to people like Olivia.
A conversation to someone in desperation could save their life.If people can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.

I have to say, I find it a little hard to believe that EVERYBODY on tumblr would tell this girl to kill herself. I know this because I, myself, have battled suicidal attempts and major depression for a good portion of my life, as have a good amount of people I’ve met through tumblr. However, it says on the poster that many facebookfriends knew her on tumblr. That sounds a lot more plausible than the community I’ve come to know.
First off: nobody being bullied and berated constantly makes it up to 900 posts. Much less posts photos and videos, it just ain’t happening. Why? Because low self-esteem makes it very difficult to try again after failing to get attention. I’m not saying there weren’t assholes who may have made some cruel comments, but even on Youtube the majority of people are sympathetic and quickly rage at the insensitive.
How do I take this? I see this as the mad scramble of devastated parents to place the blame somewhere, anywhere… that isn’t themselves. Let me tell you, when you get right down to the nitty-gritty of depression, anxiety, what have you, it’s the parents who hold the most weight. 900 posts is a long time to be severely depressed, so why didn’t her parents raise the alarm? They seem to demand a lot of responsibility for their daughter’s mental state from strangers. And the girl has been in and out of hospitals, so it’s not as if they didn’t know!
My point is, where were her parents during these attempts? Where were the doctors supposed to be helping her? If she was pouring out her soul on the internet, it’s because she wasn’t getting solace at home or in everyday life. I’m not being insensitive, I’m being realistic from experience- the internet is an escape. If she wasn’t getting that escapist experience she would never have kept up her account, simple as that.
Lets stop placing all the blame on a minority of internet browsers, and look at the most influential forces in the girl’s life. I guarantee that if everything were hunkey-dorey, she wouldn’t be on tumblr in the first place.
